Placido Domingo at the Colón for the benefit of Ukrainian refugees

the spanish tenor Placido Domingo reappears in the Colon Theater of Buenos Aires after 24 years, and on April 10 at 5:00 p.m. he will give a special function with the aim of raising funds to provide humanitarian support to those affected by war in ukraine.

The announcement was formalized today by the head of the Buenos Aires government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, together with the Central Representation of Ukraine and UNHCR. “We are excited to receive so much support. We believe that this fundraising function to provide humanitarian aid is a strong message in favor of the cessation of war, peace and respect for human rights”, said Maria Cristina Zinko, vice-president of the Central Representation of Ukraine.

“We are experiencing a humanitarian drama of enormous proportions with devastating consequences for individuals, families and communities. Although there have been generous responses from neighboring countries and solidarity actions around the world, more commitment is needed of the entire community to support all those affected,” emphasized Juan Carlos Murillo, UNHCR Regional Representative.

And Rodríguez Larreta added; “In the same way, culture never remains indifferent to crises and human tragedies. This time, the voice of Placido Domingo will be the bridge that unites our desire for solidarity with the Ukrainian people to bring them our help” .

With 70 years of experience, UNHCR works in 135 countries to meet the needs of all people who have had to flee their homes because of war, persecution, widespread violence or human rights violations. Currently, more than 4 million people have fled Ukraine to other countries and some 12 million are still in the country in need of humanitarian aid.
