The Pixies are celebrating their 40th anniversary – and there’s new material. On June 26th, the album “Complete B-Sides: 1988-97”, released over 25 years ago, will be released on vinyl for the first time. Originally released in 2001, the album contains 19 B-sides from the 4AD era, the band’s indie label at the time. Pixies fans can look forward to tracks like “Into the White” or “Bailey Walk” from the record player.

If you no longer have your record player within easy reach in your closet, you can alternatively grab the double CD that will be released at the same time – to show off your excellent taste in music while driving a convertible. Thanks to the four-side format of vinyl records, the existing songs are also supplemented by six additional live recordings taken from later Pixies single releases, including material from the 1997 “Debaser” re-release.

A consistent chapter of rediscovery

“Pixies at the BBC, 1988–91” was only recently republished, making the new edition a consistent addition to this series of publications. And because reminiscing can be so beautiful, designer Chris Bigg has created a new artwork using photographs from Simon Larbalestier’s archive.

40 years of influence

The band, which came into being in 1988 at the latest with “Where Is My Mind?” plunged into new spheres of success, has influenced many musicians for 40 years now. Kurt Cobain admitted to Rolling Stone in 1994: “I was trying to write the ultimate pop song. Basically, I was trying to steal from the Pixies. […] When I first heard the Pixies, I connected with the band so strongly that I should have been in it. We adopted her sense of dynamics – quiet and gentle, then loud and hard.”

Anyone who would like to listen to this formative music in a new edition can do so from June 26th.
