“Pirates of the Caribbean 6”: Johnny Depp could probably be on board after all

Disney is currently said to be considering bringing the actor back for the new film in the series.

The next film in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series has been the subject of speculation for some time. Now there’s a new rumor: Johnny Depp will probably return as Jack Sparrow – but not in the way Depp fans might have wanted.

Depp and Disney open to collaboration again

After the actor took on the lead role of pirate Jack Sparrow in five films in the franchise, Disney separated from Depp amid his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard. Now both sides are open to working together again, as Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman told People.

Disney is now probably considering bringing Depp back on board for a supporting role in “Pirates of the Caribbean 6.” The mime also told “People” that he could now imagine working with the company again after he completely ruled out a new business relationship with Heard during the trial.

There are currently no more details about the casting process.

New film should take place in the same universe

“Pirates of the Caribbean 6” will be written by Ted Elliott (“Lone Ranger”) and Craig Mazin (“The Last of Us”) and is expected to revolve around a story about a younger ensemble of pirates. The sequel will continue to take place in the same universe, so guest appearances by the original cast – such as Keira Knightley or Johnny Depp as the eccentric Sparrow – are easy to imagine.

In addition to the sixth sequel, there is also speculation about a “Pirates of the Caribbean” spin-off with Margot Robbie, which will only appear after the sixth film in the franchise.
