Pipsa Hurmerinta shares her tips for the daily food routine of a family with children.

Pipsa Hurmerinta is a chef and entrepreneur known from TV. Wind Lindgren

Pipsa Hurmerinna everyday life is busy, because she is a chef, the owner of the catering service Lucky Tart and a mother of two children. We asked for tips for the hectic everyday life of a family with children.

– The hunger of growing children is endless. Then it is important that the food is filling and has a lot of nutrition, says Hurmerinta.

Hurmerinta states that her own son might eat a whole packet of toast with jam as a snack.

– That doesn’t make any sense, Hurmerinta exclaims.

Instead, you should guide the child to eat, for example, a couple of eggs. In addition to them, you can have some bread and jam, Hurmerinta illustrates.

– Teaching growing young people that what they eat should be complete nutrition is important.

The freezer is a friend

Another concrete tip that Hurmerinta gives is to make use of the freezer.

– The freezer is my best friend, Hurmerinta jokes.

– I make big batches of casseroles, for example. When you put them in the freezer, there is always something there when there is an emergency.

Hurmerinta doesn’t have time to prepare snacks in the fridge. Everyday is usually too busy for that.

– It would certainly help a lot if you could manage to cut cucumber and carrot sticks and the like ready for the fridge.

The nick of the professional kitchen

In an ideal situation, Hurmerinta would, for example, take an hour on Sunday evening, when she would organize the refrigerator and pre-prepare the next week’s snacks and meals.

– Even the fact that if the intention is to make sweet potatoes the next day, peeling them is already one less step. Just like in a professional kitchen, if there is a gig on Saturday, certain things are done on Thursday and Friday, so everything is ready on Saturday.

According to Hurmerinna, the planning can also be seen in the grocery bill, as it will easily be more expensive in the long run to go to the store every day than to do the shopping for several days at once in a planned manner.

Hurmerinta reveals that their family eats a lot of pasta. Recently, gnocchi have also become a favorite among children. Hurmerinta is happy about that, because they are also her favorite food. Vegetables like broccoli and meaty chicken are often prepared. Speed is key, because children ask for food as soon as they get home.

– I like chicken because it’s filling. I make a lot of one pan or pot dishes, they are easy.
