Sports doctor Pippa Laukka, 55, known from television, says Instagram– on his account about his relationship with alcohol. Laukka says that he has not consumed alcohol in two years.

– I don’t need alcohol or the conditions it produces during or after consumption, for anything. I didn’t really need it before, and maybe that’s why I left it completely, Laukka says in his publication.

If the publication is not visible, you can view it from here.

Laukka admits that at the beginning of the change, it was strange and even boring for him to go to events or parties and not drink alcohol.

– There is no reason to go to a party if you don’t drink. But parties came and went, and at some point a natural way was found to enjoy them without clinking glasses of schumpa, the feeling of lightness like a drunken high, and the feeling in the mouth and head brought by wine. I found myself enjoying myself.

Laukka noticed that he can enjoy dancing and conversations without alcohol.

“I don’t feel that I have lost my joy”

Laukka went to a party the day before the Instagram publication of the last conversation about his alcoholism.

– One of my friends asked if it bothers me that others drink at midsummer, parties or events. I was downright amazed by the question, about how the choice of others could disturb. In my opinion, the question includes the idea of how integrally alcohol is part of having fun in our culture.

For Lauka, the answer to the question is clear. He is not bothered by other people’s alcohol consumption at all. He says it’s fun when people loosen up and enjoy life.

– It’s not out of my hands, and I want to believe that my non-alcoholism is not out of their hands either.

According to Lauka, nothing has changed even though he stopped drinking alcohol.

– I don’t feel that I have lost joy, friends, party invitations, bubbling conversations or laughter. Instead, I got something more. I have found my own way of enjoying myself, a way of being that looks like myself. It can be seen in the fact that I enjoy myself at parties, I leave them in a good mood and wake up the next day completely myself.

The publication’s comment field has been filled with congratulations and discussions about alcohol or non-alcohol. Many commenters have shared how long they themselves have been without a drink.

– Amen! And the best thing is that the next day (or days) won’t be wasted when you can’t do anything. You can manage to go for a run/to the gym, one commenter says.

– Here, 6 years and almost 4 months without alcohol, my mind, body and health thank me, says another commenter.
