Shrug on the streak: After a fall, Alexis Pinturault had to be flown away with a helicopter. He twisted his knee.

The former World Cup overall winner Alexis Pinturault was heavily overthrown at the Super-G in Kitzbühel and flown away with the helicopter. The French ski racer turned his knee in the accident. There was initially no diagnosis after Pinturault’s fall. The 33-year-old had only torn the cruciate ligament in a fall in Wengen in the pre-season and then gave his comeback this winter.

At the destination of the legendary and notorious streak, Pinturault’s wife Romane was waiting for dad with his daughter in his arms – when he fell, his wife shouted his hand in front of his mouth.

“It hurts extremely when you know Alexis’ story a bit,” said the Swiss Marco Odermatt, which was leading at the time. “He is one of the nicest on the tour. I only wish him the best – but that didn’t look good.” At the scene of the accident at a left curve at the level of the Seidlalm, other drivers already had problems before the three -time world champion Pinturault.

As every year, the topic of security was particularly the focus in Kitzbühel. Drivers, officials and experts puzzle how racing can be made more harmless. On Saturday (from 11.30 a.m. in the LiveTicker from T-Online) the descent is on the streak.
