Pinocchio by Guillermo Del Toro: the trailer is coming

Land beautiful stories always find new ways to be told. It is the case of Pinocchio which, after many, many, cinema versions, is now ready to become an imaginative stop-motion film. The direction is of the Academy Award Guillermo del Toro and of Mark Gustafson.

The director de The labyrinth of the faun and it’s The shape of water has dreamed of this new version of Pinocchio (inspired by the artist’s illustrations Gris Gimly). And now, thanks to the collaboration with Gustafson, everything has become reality. The second teaser of this film, released just a few hours ago, shows a darker approach to the story. Certainly less imaginative and dreamy than many other interpretations …

Here is the new teaser of the Pinocchio from Guillermo del Toro.

In an interview with Vanity Fairlast month of Toro had explained: “Pinocchio is recruited in a military village because the Podestà thinks that if the puppet cannot die then he can become a perfect soldier“.

In fact, if on the one hand the original story narrated by Collodi will not be completely changed, on the other the plot will be given a political twist, with the protagonist inserted in a difficult historical context. A context that lives on the terror of a dictatorship and the continuing threat of an authoritarian power of turn everyone into obedient puppets. The story, in fact, it will be set in the fascist Italy of the 1930s.

Many stars in the cast version of Pinocchio!

The English version will have many names known to dubbing. From Ewan McGregor for the talking cricket a Tilda Swinton for the Blue Fairy. But also Christoph Waltz (the Fox), David Bradley (Geppetto) and Cate Blanchett (the Sp equipment monkey). And the voice of the protagonist puppet? Of Gregory Mann.
