Pink Floyd music rights sale stalled by quarrel | Music

It may be a while before Pink Floyd’s music rights are sold. According to the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, the sale has hit a wall, partly due to a fight between the (former) band members of the rock band.

The English band planned to sell the music rights for an amount expected to exceed $500 million. According to the FT, there were already big names among those interested, including Blackstone, Sony Music and Warner Music. The sale has now been delayed for several months due to differences of opinion about, among other things, tax regulations.

In addition, ex-bassist/singer Roger Waters lives in the United States and the other band members in the United Kingdom. In addition, Waters has had a difficult relationship with David Gilmour for years. One bidder says that tense relationship makes it “impossible” to close a deal. Another doubts it will ever be possible to demolish the wall again, as the band members are constantly arguing for no reason. Waters’ controversial statements about Ukraine also did not help a potential deal, the FT also knows.

In recent years, more major artists sold their music rights, such as Neil Young, Sting and Bob Dylan. They made hundreds of millions of dollars doing that.

Pink Floyd was formed in 1965, from the original line-up only drummer Nick Mason remained. The megaband had its greatest success with the album ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, which was released in 1973. Singles like ‘Money’ and ‘Another brick in the wall’ are among the biggest hits.
