When I grew up in the seventies, they were omnipresent. My brothers, my older sister and all her friends smoked pot on their rooms, and heard Pink Floyd, especially “Dark Side of the Moon”. When you become 14, so many things suddenly plunge into you, but “Dark Side of the Moon” provided the perfect soundtrack. The more intensely you dealt with her music, the more you encountered interesting details, which in turn led to other discoveries. It was felt that there were creative minds behind Pink Floyd, who playfully abandoned laws about supposedly brazen laws and simply made what they thought was right.
And they had this admirable talent to reinvent themselves between the albums. If you only receive music, this may not be aware of it. If you have already made 14 albums yourself, it falls from your eyes like scales.
They had their phase one, phase two, perhaps also phase three and four. Even with luck, most groups do not get beyond phase one.
It started with Syd Barrett wrote these bizarre stories, these strange songs, which were somehow surf rock, somehow R&B-but from his completely turned out perspective. Later it was Roger Waters who designed these large -scale sound landscapes that illustrated the crises of human nature.
If you compare them with the Prog rock groups-King Crimson, Yes or Genesis-their music is almost simple
And finally Pink Floyd came to the conviction: “Hey, we could play in huge stadiums and let gigantic pigs climb into the sky.” And her music always had the substance to wear this concept.
And at the same time: Despite all the levels and set pieces that mixed up in their concepts, they always had a very direct, down -to -earth musicality. If you compare them with the prog rock groups-King Crimson, Yes or Genesis-, your music is almost simple. When you hear one of your songs for the first time, you can immediately understand the chord sequences and harmonies. I also love these other bands, but at Pink Floyd the emotional understanding is far more spontaneous.
