Piet rescues unwell volunteer Sint-intocht Westzaan from the ditch

A drowning man was resuscitated this afternoon after falling into a ditch on the Veldweg in Oostzaan. This happened during the arrival of Sinterklaas, which took place there at that time. A Piet who took part in the arrival saved the victim from the ditch.

It concerns a volunteer from the committee that organizes the arrival. The person – estimated to be between thirty and forty – became unwell and fell into the ditch, a fire brigade spokesperson told NH reporter Mischa Korzec on site.

“He was taken out by Piet,” the spokesperson continues. The victim was then resuscitated on the shore and taken to hospital by ambulance. Photos show that the police and fire brigade are also present. It is not known whether they played a role in the relief effort.

A spokesperson for the Zaanstreek-Waterland Safety Region confirms that a person fell into the water, but cannot yet provide any further details.
