Piece of dune area burned down near Castricum

A small piece of dune area burned down at Castricum at the beginning of the afternoon. The fire raged on the edge of the North Holland Dune Reserve, near the intersection between Duinweg and Heereweg.

Due to the ongoing drought, additional vehicles with water were deployed by the fire service to fight the fire. Via Twitter, the security region called on people in the area to give the emergency services space.

Fortunately, the fire was quickly extinguished and was brought under control around 1.15 pm. However, the fire service expects to be busy extinguishing the fire for a while.

It is the second dune fire in a short time in the region. In the Kennemerduinen, on the other side of the North Sea Canal, a large fire raged on Friday evening. This went about lost a football field to nature.
