Thirteen films in forty years of career (including the cult The fleeting moment And The Truman Show), Peter Weir – to which the Venice exhibition last year delivered the golden lion to his career – in 1975 he turned Picnic to Hanging Rock.

The film, inspired by Joan Lindsay’s novel, tells of the disappearance of three young women and their teacher during a trip on Valentine’s Day of 1900. The film, A hymn to power and the erotic mystery of naturerefractory to easy interpretations and solutions, launched his career.
