Piatri wins thriller – Verstappen falls back and rages

The race of Spain was primarily a thriller through a late Safety Car. In the end, Oscar Piatri kept his nerves and stayed in front.

Oscar Piatri has further expanded his leadership in the World Cup ranking by winning at the Spain Grand Prix. The Australian, who had already started from the pole position, kept his nerve in the heat of Barcelona even after a late Safety Car and was the first to drive over the line in front of his team -mate Lando Norris. Charles Leclerc in Ferrari finished third.

Max Verstappen initially overtaken Norris at the start and had driven in second place from third place, but was unable to maintain the position against the faster McLaren. Instead, Red Bull tried another pit strategy and had Verstappen stopped three times, while the McLaren only came to the box twice. Verstappen was able to attack with the fresher tires, but nevertheless did not make it past the McLaren.

It became really exciting at the end when the Safety Car came again ten round before the end and the field pushed together. Piatri, Norris and Verstappen everyone came to the box again and got a fresh set of tires for the final sprint. The McLaren opted for the soft mixture, shock for the hard.

However, this had serious consequences for the Dutch. He had big problems at the restart and lost third place to Leclerc. Later he also had to let George Russell go in Mercedes after burning him anger with a duel. For the campaign, the reigning world champion was finally awarded a ten-second penalty and fell further back.

The German Nico Hülkenberg also benefited from this. He was completely surprising as a sixth line over the finish line, and even the punishment even slipped into fifth place.
