Photogenic dead oak Boerenveensche Plassen has successor

In January of this year, the dead oak tree, well known to many nature lovers, fell over on the island in the northern lake of the Boerenveensche Plassen. He had stood there for over 50 years and was photographed hundreds of times in spring, summer, autumn and winter. In the early 1970s there were no puddles. At that time the oak was still thin in leaf. The Drentse Landscape Foundation took measures in 1986 that led to the creation of two large lakes again. The tree fell into the water and died. By January 2022 the rootstock had rotted through. The tree fell.
