Ski crosser Florian Wilmsmann confirms his strong form at the World Cup in Canada. When Reece Howden won, the German finished second.

First World Cup podium of the season for ski crosser Florian Wilmsmann. In a close race he secured second place by hundredths of a second ahead of Frenchman Youri Douplessis. With that success, he secured his third place overall in the World Cup with one race to go before the end of the World Cup season.

First place overall goes to Canadian Reece Howden. Because he was unbeatable at his home World Cup. The runner-up in the overall World Cup, David Mobärg, fell in the quarter-finals and therefore has no chance of catching up. Tim Hronek took sixth place in the small final.

Fanny Smith wins before the Canadian competition

In the women’s category, Fanny Smith from Switzerland won in the absence of the Swedish dominator Sandra Näslund. In the final she prevailed against the purely Canadian competition. Second place went to Courtney Hoffos ahead of Marielle Thompson.

The World Cup in Craigleith started with a chaotic schedule. Heavy rainfall had severely affected the slope and would have impaired the athletes’ visibility. It started at 3:30 p.m. local time.

Five DSV men in the finals – Maier with the end of the season

The DSV men were represented in the final round with five drivers. Johanna Holzmann was the only German among the women, as the season has already ended for the most successful skier. Daniela Maier, third at the Olympics, had to have an operation on her knee and had to give up her hopes of being among the top three in the overall World Cup prematurely.

As early as the round of 16, it became clear that those who start well have the best chances. Because on the track there is hardly any possibility of overtaking. Daniel Bohnhacker and Tobias Müller, who messed up their start and were therefore eliminated in the round of 16, also had to learn that. And Johanna Holzmann did not make it into the semi-finals either. Niklas Bachsleitner also narrowly failed.
