Pharrell Williams is working on new music for NERD

According to Pharrell Williams, NERD could soon make a comeback.

Fans of NERD can rejoice, because new music from the US hip-hop and rock band around Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and singer Shay Haley could be on the way soon.

Speaking to GQ, Williams said he recently worked on “twelve NERD records” while in Paris. Of the new NERD material, he said, “It’s big choruses, […] I’ll just come out of nowhere with the three part crazy chords going from three part to four part to eight part”.

He continued, comparing it to 2001’s first NERD album IN SEARCH OF…: “It’s like the feeling I had when we did IN SEARCH OF…. I’m not going to sit here and say they were hits. I knew it was different and I knew there wouldn’t be anything like it out there. But I’m talking about the feeling. I wanted to do everything. i wanted feelings I wanted the damn great composition”.

Williams went on to reveal that he’s also “experimented with chords.” “The chords I’ve never used, the ones I fucking hated,” he explained. “But I use them to go to other chords where the changes are such a liberation. And then, lyrically speaking, the harmonies here…all the songs just have rainbow harmonies.”

However, he did not provide any information on when NERD will release this new collection of tracks. The group released their latest album NO ONE EVER REALLY DIES in 2017. The LP was their fifth studio album and featured singles such as “Lemon” featuring Rihanna and the Future-supported song “1000”.

Most recently, Pharrell Williams released the gospel single “Joy (Unspeakable)” in June 2023 as part of Men’s Fashion Week in Paris, where Williams served as creative director for Louis Vuitton menswear. Williams was hired as creative director for the French fashion house’s menswear line back in February.
