Scammers have now targeted pharmacy customers.

In the name of the Avainapteekit chain, scam e-mails are now circulating, trying to trick Finns into data or scam money.

– During yesterday, we have received several contacts from people who have received scam emails sent on behalf of Key Pharmacies. Some of the messages have been asked to provide feedback or fill in contact information to redeem an incoming package from abroad. Loan offers have been presented in some of the messages, CEO of Avainapteekkien Iiro Salonen tells Iltalehti.

The scam messages look genuine and are designed to resemble the key newsletters of Key Pharmacies. The messages are trying to get you to a link to a scam site that is fishing for private information and credit card information. Providing information can lead to financial losses, for example in the form of order fraud or, at worst, identity theft.

For example, such a notice is baked inside a scam message imitating a newsletter. Screenshot

The scam message that Iltalehti gets its hands on shows how the subject of the message is “We want to reward you for your feedback!”. The content of the message is a message “delivery of a suspended package” trying to open a link to a scam site.

Salonen says that there are no indications that the contact information on the distribution list of Key Pharmacy newsletters has been accessed. Key pharmacies have sent a warning message to their newsletter subscribers.

– Messages have been sent occasionally, but also to people who are regular customers of Key Pharmacies. We especially want to warn them about this scam, Salonen says.

Warn your loved ones

As this is a scam related to pharmacy, it is worth talking about it with seniors in your immediate circle. Because the message may appear to have come from a familiar pharmacy, there is a risk that the links in it will begin to open and fill the fishing site with information.

Salonen emphasizes that Key Pharmacies never ask for credit card information or other private information. Key pharmacies say they have also reported the scam messages to the Cyber Security Center, which investigates and reports on security breaches.

When you receive emails, you should always be careful if they direct you through links to websites. Last October, Iltalehti handed out police instructions on how to make sure you are on a secure site. Read the story here.
