Petri Kontiola will end his career in the spring of 2023

Ilves’ star striker Petri Kontiola37, has told For the morning paperthat he will end his playing career at the end of the upcoming season.

– Isn’t that how it is. It’s sad that it’s someone else’s turn to come here and spin, Kontiola told Aamulehte in connection with the Tampere Cup.

Kontiola moved to Ilves last year, and scored 8+30=38 in 52 matches last season.

Kontiola has played for Leijon in seven World Cups and two Olympics. Of these, he has won three World Cup silvers and one Olympic bronze.

Kontiola made his breakthrough at the adult level in another Tampere club, Tappara, during the years 2003–07. Kontiola played most of his professional career in the KHL.

Kontiola, who comes from Seinäjoki, played 12 games in the NHL in a Chicago shirt in the 2007–08 season.
