RTL director Peter van der Vorst has lost the bond with his viewers public from his 4 million euros in the Amsterdam canal belt, says TV critic Victor Vlam.
RTL 4 is losing its shine. The eve is under pressure with the substantively relaxed RTL Boulevard and the ever -worse scoring good times bad times, but the late evening is really a direct child’s child: RTL Tonight is flopped, but out of a kind of honor the channel will keep this on the tube for months.
Elitist Peter
What the hell is the matter? TV critic Victor Vlam points with an accusing finger to Peter van der Vorst, the channel boss of RTL. “I think Peter van der Vorst and RTL have lost contact with their viewers,” he says in the latest episode of his podcast Victor explains TV. “RTL 4 is starting to become more and more elitist.”
For years, RTL 4 was very striking to touch the living room feeling. “But now it feels more like a shop window of what a wealthy elite likes. RTL Tonight is exemplary for that.”
RTL Tonight
RTL Tonight is the prestige project by Peter, who was even in the auditions of the clients. “You rarely see that a program director at that level is involved in a program, so that means that flopping is really in account. The core of RTL Tonight’s problem is that it is just too pretentious.”
Peter is completely wrong with this talk show, says Victor. “It often lacks the tone of the street or everyday life and I think the decor is already a striking illustration. It looks like a very expensive loft in a large city with a view of all kinds of skyscrapers. It is literally a place where the Rich and Famous feel at home.”
Folk image
Not only in terms of shape, but also in terms of content, RTL Tonight does not appeal to the ordinary viewer, the MediaDuider continues. According to him, there are hardly any popular types in between. “They are people like Simon van Teutem from the correspondent. How many people outside the Randstad read the correspondent or know what that is at all?”
Little, Victor thinks. He also points to clients such as Raounak Khaddari, Sander Schimmelpenninck and Ahmed Aboutaleb. “They are all people who are used to serving a well -to -do elite. I think RTL Tonight has lost the ordinary viewer. They don’t have the conversation of the day as it is conducted in Lettelbert and Deventer.”
Bubble
RTL Tonight has the conversation that Peter has in the Amsterdam canal belt, says Victor. “I have been thinking for a while that Peter van der Vorst appears to me as someone who is too much in an elitist, well -to -do bubble, because earlier this year he gave a big interview to the Volkskrant and then he said,” I’m Woke. “
Most Dutch people have a negative association Woke, he continues. “But if you literally live in a 4 million euros -cost canal house in Amsterdam, yes, then you can say something like that, because there is a compliment calculated there. And that is the problem of what goes wrong with RTL.”
Ordinary man
Peter probably doesn’t even realize it himself, says Victor. “I think you also see it when putting on Arjen Lubach on the late evening, while clearly does not fit very well. That is just a VPRO program that is now broadcast by RTL, but which does not necessarily fit with the RTL 4 audience.”
The TV critic concludes: “They are too busy programming to people in their own bubble and therefore miss the connection with the common man.”
