Peter Pannekoek is the man who has to provide laughter on television on New Year’s Eve, but will that work? According to the AD, the joke density of his conference is lower than expected…

It is a great honor for Peter Pannekoek: this year he can once again provide the New Year’s Eve conference on NPO 1, the largest TV channel in our country. One setback: it A.D has already come to see it and only awards four out of five stars. An excellent score of course, but not excellent. What’s going on? What is disappointing according to the newspaper?

Joke density

We know Peter mainly for his many quick jokes, but according to the newspaper that is a bit disappointing. “The joke density seems to be lower than at Pannekoek’s previous New Year’s Eve conference.”

The comedian lashes out at Dilan Yesilgöz, Geert Wilders and President Trump, among others. “There is little room for a sweet joke, a comforting arm around a shoulder or a condoning story at Pannekoek.”

Reverend

Trouw journalist Rinske Wels also went to watch and saw Peter mainly addressing the people in a pedantic manner. “I heard Reverend Pannekoek during a try-out in Amsterdam,” she explains to him in the newspaper.

Peter then: “Oh, that doesn’t sound good at all. I have never had positive associations with the word ‘pastor’. I immediately see the finger in my mind: you are sinful and will go to hell. Just like it was at my Christian primary school.”

Trouble

If it becomes politically correct nonsense, then TV critic Victor Vlam certainly doesn’t feel like it. He writes down X: “Oops. The AD review of the New Year’s Eve conference is not very positive: low joke density, especially the low points of the year and hope is hard to find.”

He sighs: “Is it really too much to ask for a laugh on the last day of the year? There is already a lot of misery in the world. And then Peter Pannekoek is going to make it tough for a while. I don’t know if I want to see this.”

“Don’t look!”

A certain Stijn then indicates that he went to the conference, but found it disappointing. “I went to the theater: you don’t have to see it. You can read the few funny jokes on X.”

Eveline actually enjoyed it. “Take a look first, before you take the fun out of everyone. Since when do you believe the reviews from the AD? I was at the try-out.”
