Peter Bosz cannot enjoy PSV: ‘I had little fun’

PSV is one step closer to the title. Peter Bosz’s team managed to keep Feyenoord to a 2-2 draw, leaving the gap to second place at ten points. Still, the coach was critical of his team’s play in the top match, but he also realized that PSV must be happy with the lead that is still there.

The match between PSV and Feyenoord was exciting, but certainly not always good. For example, Olivier Boscagli made a terrible mistake at 1-1. “That was unprecedented,” Peter Bosz responded afterwards. “I’m not used to things like this from him and my team at all. And the start of the second half was completely terrible. “I really didn’t have much fun this Sunday afternoon,” the trainer was very critical.

Goalkeeper Walter Benitez kept PSV in the match with several important saves. On the other hand, the Eindhoven team should have scored more in the first half. “But if you mention the goalkeeper as a standout, I think that says enough about our game. I have often protected my team, but today we made far too many mistakes. That just can not be.”

“I don’t see us giving away this lead again.”

Anyone who heard Peter Bosz talk could hardly imagine that PSV had taken an advance on the title an hour earlier. It repelled Feyenoord’s attack and retained its ten-point lead. “And that’s why I’m happy,” he put the criticism from a few minutes earlier into perspective.

Despite the large lead, no one at PSV wanted to shout out loud that they were going to become champions. But there was still the realization that this could hardly go wrong. “I don’t see us giving away this lead anymore,” said goalscorer Guus Til. “But of course it is possible in the last ten games. It would be really sloppy of us, but it is not impossible.”

“I understand that you already want to congratulate me.”

Peter Bosz also normally does not foresee any problems for PSV on the way to the title. “I understand that you already want to congratulate me, but then I can still release a lot of one-liners about why we are not yet champions. We will have to remain stable.”

“When I came here this summer, the story was that PSV had dropped a lot of points against the smaller teams,” the trainer continued his answer. “This season we have only drawn three times and won all of them against the smaller teams. You become champion in those matches. If we take the title, it is the title of the mental. Because we have always maintained our concentration until now.”

And so the big cigar that Bosz wanted to light after a victory remains in his cigar case for a while. “We didn’t deserve that, I will only earn that again with the next victory.”
