A look back to November last year. Peter Kuin, who has been living in Brazil for fifteen years, is almost at home after a cafe visit when he is met by men in uniform. At first he thinks it is about the police, but when he is dragged with big violence, he realizes that it is wrong. “They put me unheated hard and tied my hands with iron wire. The pain was unbearable, I almost fainted.”

According to Kuin, his five kidnappers were members of the Brazilian Mafia. They wrongly believed that the West Frisian had a safe full of gold. When they found nothing, they plundered his house and took him to a hiding address in the jungle. The ultimatum followed: his daughters had to pay 23,000 euros in a short time, otherwise he would not survive.

“I woke up by my sister and ended up in a nightmare,” says daughter Kimberly. She and her sister received photos and a video showing how a gun was pressed against their father’s head. They desperately tried to get the ransom together, but without success.

“I thought I would be killed,” says Kuin emotionally. “I still asked if they wanted to leave my body in a place where I could be found.”

We spoke to Peter and his daughter Kimberly in his Stamcafé in Andijk. Warning: Video contains violent images.
