“Periphery” replaces “Rings of Power” from number 1 in Prime Video

Amazon’s fantasy series “The Rings of Power” was unchallenged at number 1 in the Prime Video charts. But already two weeks after the release of the finale, subscribers seem to find another series much more interesting.

The Lord of the Rings series The Rings of Power was without a doubt one of the most anticipated productions of 2022, if not beyond. To a large extent, this calculation has also worked out for Amazon. However, the title didn’t stay at the top position for very long after the end of the first season. From there, start greets another Amazon original: “Periphery” starring Chloë Grace Moretz.

“Periphery” is new #1 on Amazon Prime Video

The Germans like sci-fi and fantasy, that has been known for a long time and the German streaming charts show it regularly. At Amazon Prime Video, corresponding blockbuster series are currently handing each other a hand in the top 10. With “The Rings of Power”, the streaming service’s largest own project to date has run. According to Amazon, the premiere on September 2, 2022 alone was the most successful of all times for the streaming service. With an estimated production cost of $715 million, one can only hope it was worth it for Amazon. The series triggered some discussions, but so far it can basically be described as a success.

Accordingly, it is somewhat surprising that just two weeks after the finale, another series holds the top position in the Prime Video charts. With “Periphery”, a sci-fi series that was much less noticed in the run-up is now enthroned there.

This is what the Periphery series is about

The production is based on the novel of the same name (“The Peripheral”) by William Gibson and takes place in two different time levels. In the year 2032, young Flynne Fisher (Chloë Grace Moretz) lives in a small town with her brother Burton (Jack Reynor) and their seriously ill mother. She is actually a passionate gamer, but works in a 3D printing shop without any enthusiasm. When the family struggles with money, her brother asks her to test a new video game; the test would pay extremely well.

In virtual London in the year 2099, Flynne is now supposed to steal information from an institute as part of a simulation. The mission fails – but the young woman realizes that it is not a digital game, but reality. She controlled a lifelike avatar called Peripheral. And the supposed game world, dystopian London, actually exists as the reality of its own future.

However, she doesn’t have much time to find out how her own time and the bleak future are connected and who is responsible for the connection. Because a dangerous special unit is right on her and her brother’s heels.
