The Sea Farm of Colruyt is a square kilometer in size and is located about five kilometers in the sea right in front of the Nieuwpoort harbor. There are now 140 so -called backbones on the buoys with everything together about 45 kilometers of mussel rope.
Last year they harvested 30 tons of mussels, but now the prognoses are rising to a triplicate of it. “For this year there are about 30 lines that we are going to harvest at the beginning of June. It was a spring with a lot of sun, that is, a lot of plankton. The more plankton, the more mussels. They will taste better than last year is difficult to say, because they were already good,” says Zeeboer biologist Stijn van Hoestenberghe.
