Perfect: Nyland signs with RB Leipzig – fourth club since 2021

“Other circumstances desired”

RB Leipzig have announced Örjan Nyland’s commitment. The 32-year-old keeper would have “desired different circumstances” than having to come because of the serious injury to regular Péter Gulácsi (32), but is now “proud to be part of RB Leipzig”. For the Norwegian, the “Red Bulls” are the next short-term stop and the fourth club since the beginning of 2021. The contract runs until the end of the season.

“Due to Pete’s long absence, it was clear to us that we still had to sign a goalkeeper who has experience, can integrate into the team quickly and is available immediately. Örjan fits this profile perfectly,” explained RB goalkeeping coach Frederik Gößling and said: “He knows the Bundesliga from his time in Ingolstadt and also played in England for a long time.” Nyland moved there from FCI in 2019, stayed at Aston Villa for two years and followed short engagements at Norwich, Bournemouth and Reading from 2021.

Gößling added: “Because of his appearances in the national team, Örjan was also challenged in competitive games in the past few months when he was without a club. Together with Janis and our two talents, Jonas Nickisch and Timo Schlieck, we now have a goalkeeping team that will do everything as a group to compensate for Pete’s loss as best as possible.”
