The transfer had already become apparent, and Omar Marmoush’s departure from Frankfurt is now certain. The Egyptian is moving to the Premier League – and the high transfer fee could rise even further.

As expected, striker Omar Marmoush is leaving Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt in the winter and moving to English soccer champions Manchester City. The Egyptian signed a contract until 2030, with City reportedly paying a transfer fee of 75 million euros plus five million euros in bonuses. This makes Marmoush the most expensive winter transfer in Bundesliga history.

The transfer had been in the offing for days, and in the home game against Borussia Dortmund (2-0), the Egyptian was no longer part of the Hessian squad and said goodbye to the fans. After tough negotiations, the two clubs have now agreed on a change.

“He has done a lot for Eintracht Frankfurt and played a large part in our sporting development,” said Frankfurt’s sports director Markus Krösche, “that’s one of the reasons why we complied with his wish. We wish Omar Marmoush all the best in his future journey. He will stay in Frankfurt always welcome.” Krösche had always emphasized that Frankfurt’s goal was “that we want to keep this team together. Unless something extraordinary happens.”

For Manchester, the strong dribbling Egyptian will be a face of rehabilitation alongside superstar Erling Haaland in the second half of the season. For months, the Citizens were in a crisis of results and had to bury their title ambitions in the Premier League for the time being. The fourth-placed team must try to catch up and limit the damage and first secure qualification for the Champions League.

On Sunday, Guardiola’s team celebrated a 6-0 win against relegation candidate Ipswich Town, but suffered their next setback in the premier class in an important duel with Paris Saint-Germain (2:4). Guardiola’s team even has to worry about the play-off places in the league phase.

Marmoush scored 15 goals (ten assists) in 17 Bundesliga games this season and thus aroused interest. The striker became Eintracht’s life insurance; just before the season, the crowd favorite had extended his contract until 2027, and in 2023 VfL Wolfsburg handed him over to the SGE for free. Thanks to the Egyptian, Frankfurt moved up to third place in the league this season.
