Every year, the amounts for subsistence (alimony) are automatically indexed by a certain percentage. It is legally determined that the percentage for indexation is equal to the percentage by which wages in the Netherlands have increased on average that year. This is calculated by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
By following the general development of the wage level, the person entitled to alimony avoids having to request an adjustment of the alimony every year in connection with possible inflation. The percentage by which the alimony amounts will be increased as of January 1, 2024 has been set at 6.2%.
