The New Orleans Pelicans from the North American professional basketball league NBA have fired head coach Willie Green after only two wins in the first twelve games of the season.
Vice President Joe Dumars announced this on Saturday. The interim coach will be James Borrego, most recently an assistant coach with the Pelicans and former head coach of the Charlotte Hornets.
“If we keep losing the same way, that’s not an improvement,” Dumars said on the franchise’s website. The decision was made less because of the balance sheet, but because there was a lack of fundamental competitiveness.
The injury-plagued Pelicans had conceded over 120 points in five games this season and lost three times by more than 30 points.
