Pekka Rinne, new job: Goalkeeper coach of the youth national team

According to the information obtained by Iltalehti, he is 39 years old Pekka Rinne joins the Finnish Ice Hockey Association’s goalie coaching. Rinne takes over the coaching of the goalkeepers of the under-20 national team.

Rinne joins Tomi Lämsän to the coaching team. The new coaching team will be in real action for the first time in mid-November, when Finland will go to the tournament in the Czech Republic with two teams.

The main goal of Rinne and the entire team next season is the World Championships in Halifax, Canada at the turn of the year.

In Kempele, Rinne brought up his own enormous experience in the world’s toughest hockey league, the NHL. Rinne played a total of 683 NHL regular season games in a Predators shirt. That is the most among Finnish goalkeepers.

Rinne’s shirt was frozen in a ceremony at the end of February and it was raised on the roof of the Bridgestone Arena. Game number 35 can no longer be worn by anyone in the Predators.

The under-20 national team has a busy season ahead. In just a couple of weeks in August, the age group World Championships will be played. The venue is Edmonton.

It is a replacement tournament, as the age group World Championships had to be stopped due to the rapidly spreading coronavirus pandemic at the turn of last year. We will try again in August with the same teams.

Finland will play its first game on August 10 against Latvia.
