Peergroup has to leave the complex in Donderen: ‘We can clean up a lot’

Location theater company Peergroup has to move. The group has been staying at the old ammunition complex in Donderen since 2010, but must leave there at the end of January at the latest. The search is currently underway for a new location in the province. They hope to have found it before January 1.

The owner of the former Defense complex has new development plans and Peergroup does not fit in.

“That’s why we have to leave, but we are quite happy with that,” says Renate Dokter, head of marketing and communication at Peergroup. “The buildings are old and of course not sustainable, so it is quite expensive. It is also an opportunity for us to clean up a lot and throw things away. It is a nice challenge.”

The new base must have sufficient space for six permanent employees and a meeting room where citizens can go. One thing is certain, they will remain in the province of Drenthe. The only question is where. Extensive research is currently being conducted into all options.

“Nothing is certain,” Doctor continues. “It can be a temporary location with, for example, sea containers or a permanent location. Of course the financial picture also plays a major role and we have to take that into account.”

The new location must in any case meet the requirements of today. That is why new construction is also one of the options that Peergroup is keeping an eye on. “We want a building that is sustainable and energy-efficient. But of course we also look at whether there are existing buildings that have the potential to become more sustainable,” says Dokter.
