A serious traffic accident took place on Vermilljoenweg in Zaandam tonight. A pedestrian was struck by a passenger car and was seriously injured. The victim was rushed to hospital.
A pedestrian was crossing Vermilljoenweg, near the fire station, around 8:20 p.m. when it was hit by a car. The car probably only came to a stop a few tens of meters away. After the accident, several emergency services, including a trauma team, came to the scene of the accident.
Police cordoned off the area around the accident for investigation. It is still unclear what the cause was and whether there was a traffic violation. The Vermilljoenweg will remain closed for the time being due to the police investigation. Traffic is diverted.
