“We must guarantee transparency to consumers and a fair income for Italian farmers, in particular in the sector of extra virgin olive oil, one of the most affected by counterfeits”, continues Pecoraro Scanio, underlining how the protection of this product is crucial for the Italian economy and for food quality.

Recalling his commitment as a young president of the Chamber Agriculture Commission, Pecoraro Scanio highlights that he has “promoted one of the first laws to protect extra virgin olive oil” and congratulates Coldiretti Lazio and President David Granieri for today’s event In Civitavecchia which saw the participation of 2000 farmers. The event highlighted the excessive import of olive oil from abroad, often bottled and sold as an Italian or European product, without adequate checks on the origin.

“In full climatic crisis, it is essential to protect the Italian olive growing sector, already severely affected by xylella and the impacts of climate change,” reiterates Pecoraro Scanio. “The Italian government and the European Union must intervene to protect our farmers and guarantee consumers the authentic quality of Italian extra virgin olive oil”.

Pecoraro Scanio concludes: “No Fake Food is a campaign that must continue to grow to guarantee transparency, quality and fair income to Italian producers, defending authentic made in Italy”.
