Pearl Jam: That’s why the concert in Vienna had to be cancelled

The news must have come as a shock to all Pearl Jam fans who wanted to attend the concert in Vienna today (July 20th): The band had to cancel the show at short notice without replacement. The reason: Eddie Vedder’s health problems.

Around 8 p.m. on social media, the band explained to their followers why the concert in the Wiener Stadthalle had to be cancelled. The statement reads that Vedder is currently experiencing vocal issues stemming from the previous show:

To everyone who was looking forward to a great ‘Pearl Jam’ show tonight in Vienna – so are we. Due to the extreme circumstances at the last outdoor event outside of Paris (heat, dust and smoke from the fires) our singer Ed Vedder’s voice was damaged. He’s been to doctors and has been treated, but his vocal cords haven’t recovered yet.

This is brutal news and terrible timing… for everyone involved. For those who work so hard to make the shows happen and everyone who gives their precious time and energy to be a part of it. As a band we are deeply sorry and have tried to find ways to play anyway. And Ed wants to play. There’s just no voice available at the moment… So we’re very, very sorry.

Pearl Jam would like to thank their fans for their understanding – also because they are currently unable to offer an alternative date for the show in Vienna. Therefore, they also declare directly: “The money for the tickets will be refunded.”
