Pearl Jam: Eddie Vedder sings

After three concerts had to be canceled because of Eddie Vedder’s voice problems, the big surprise came. Pearl Jam actually performed in Amsterdam on July 25th. According to “Spin”, that wasn’t actually planned. Eddie Vedder’s doctor wanted the singer to heal his voice. Vedder sang anyway.

At the beginning of the show, the singer announced that he was supposed to take a two-week break. He summarized the conversation with his doctor: “I said, ‘I will damn it all don’t leave this part of the world without playing another show.’ Despite the disagreements, Vedder thanked his doctor during the concert.

singer change

In the course of the evening there were repeated breaks for the singer. Guitarist Stone took over Gossard Vedder’s role on the song “Mankind” from the 1996 album “No Code”. On the Kiss cover “Black Diamond” drummer Matt Cameron stepped in as vocalist.

There were 15 songs in total. Of course, hits like “Alive” couldn’t be missing.

Eddie Vedder has been struggling with voice problems since performing in Paris. According to the band, he had inhaled harmful smoke there. As a result, the concerts in Vienna, Prague and the first concert in Amsterdam had to be cancelled. Fortunately, another one was planned to take place the following day.

The European tour is now over. The Pearl Jam concerts in North America start in September.
