The Norwegian Football Association led by President Lise Klaveness supports a complaint by the human rights organization FairSquare against Gianni Infantino.
“We discussed this in the board meeting. We believe that we will support this and we will send a letter to FIFA asking the Ethics Committee to investigate this complaint“Klaveness told the press on Monday.
Violation of political Neutrality requirement
The background is the newly introduced so-called Peace Prize, which Infantino awarded to US President Donald Trump as part of the World Cup draw in December 2025. The powerful FIFA boss is accused of violating the rules of political neutrality. Shortly after the award ceremony, FairSquare filed an official complaint with FIFA’s Ethics Committee – and is now receiving support.
“The point is that FIFA, through its president, violated the rules of political neutrality by awarding this peace prize. We ask the ethics committee to examine this“, said Klaveness. The Norwegian association supports the general introduction of this peace prize “critical of. He had no anchor in the FIFA Congress. It has no legitimacy and is clearly outside FIFA’s mandate. It is a serious violation that a political award is introduced without anchoring it.”
Blocking is theoretically possible
According to The Athletic, even the other FIFA board members were completely surprised by the awarding of this prize, the jury members are not known. FairSquare refers to Article 15 of the FIFA Code of Ethics. The provision requires that all FIFA officials report to authorities, organizations and political groups “remain politically neutral“. Violations can be punished with both fines and a ban of up to two years.
