Payment of school allowances before the start of the school year

“In order to provide families and children with the necessary financial support on time, we have also ensured that the payment of the school allowances can be made before the start of the school year,” says Minister Hilde Crevits.

Automatic payout

“In recent years, the payers of the Growth Package and the Agency for the Payment of Growth Package have worked hard to pay the allowance faster but also automatically, so that there is a lot less administrative hassle for the parents.”

The school allowance is intended to help children participate in education by financially supporting their families. Provisional figures show that at least 320,000 children and young people in nursery, primary and secondary education and students HBO5 (higher professional education) can count on a school allowance. This will probably rise to half a million.

Family income

Entitlement to school allowance depends on family income and attendance at school. The exact amount is determined by family income, family situation and type of education. For each child whose details are known, the allowance will be paid today.

If not all details are known yet, payment will follow at the end of September, October or November. In specific situations, the payout may take until December or a little later.
