Patricia opened a shop for a day in the Stadshart: ‘I’ll be back’

Since this week, Zoetermeer residents can rent the pop-up store Closet Sale for a day to sell used clothing, shoes and accessories. After one of the first sales days, Patricia Hoorman (43) packs up her remaining clothes after closing time and looks back on a successful day. “Renting a shop in the City Center is normally unaffordable.”

With the closet sale you can rent the vacant storefront at Promenade 40 on your own or with friends. You set it up as your own store and start selling. It is popular because the temporary store’s agenda was fully booked for the month of October in a short time.

Vacancy is a shame

Patricia read a message about the closet sale and was immediately enthusiastic. “I have enough used clothes and shoes at home, so how nice is it if you can make someone else happy with them. An empty building in the Stadshart is also such a waste, so I really like this idea.”

She looked for a spot in the online agenda and discovered that there was already quite a bit of enthusiasm for the first sales days. “I have so much stock at home that I can restock the store for a month. Stadshart Zoetermeer has now also released the days in November and December, so I immediately reserved even more days.”

Secondhand opportunities

Patricia went to the Stadshart with bags of hangers, piles of jackets, trousers and sweaters in the car. “The caretaker opened the building around 9 a.m. and I immediately started decorating the building. Fortunately, there are already clothes racks, a counter, cupboards and fitting rooms. They have furnished it nicely here with a few items.”

Nice hustle and bustle

Throughout the day, Patricia noticed a pleasant bustle in her pop-up shop. “Many people came in out of curiosity. I spoke to someone who will soon also be selling her used items here. She wanted to take a look at what the space looks like.” White cards state that all items of clothing and shoes cost ten euros. “I sold quite a bit today, it went well.”

Play shop

Patricia knows all too well what it’s like to ‘play shop’. “I have the MoDo boutique in Noordwijkerhout where I have been selling second-hand clothing for over ten years. I know what it is like to have your own store. I also want others to experience what it is like to have their own store.”
