That happened around 8:30 p.m. In a busy place, because the police vehicles drove past terraces where every seat was occupied due to the nice weather.
The chase started near Marathonweg, when police officers saw a motorcycle driver driving past at high speed. This chase did not last long because officers thought it was too unsafe.
When other officers saw the man speeding past again, the pursuit resumed. Shortly afterwards, the man got off his motorcycle and jumped into the water from the Olympiakade.
“A police motorcycle sped across the sidewalk straight through the terrace to chase the man,” says a local resident. “He jumped into the water and then climbed out. He then fled further. About a dozen police cars drove by looking for him.”
The suspect had not yet been arrested at that time. But that happened a little later. The police had cordoned off several streets around the man so that they could contain him. The man, a man in his twenties, is currently in custody.
