THE food prices are rising more and more due to inflation, but if you can even do without some foods, the price increases on basic necessities, bread, milk, pastareally put many families in difficulty. Moreover, the problem is not only the increase that has taken place, but the fear of even more sustained increases if the situation does not stabilize.
Prices too expensive, the pasta strike is coming
Among the foods that have seen their price rise more than all the others there is certainly pasta, one of the most loved and above all irreplaceable products for Italians: the cost per kilo has even doubled compared to what pasta makers indicate, i.e. 2.13 euros per kg.
Not that it is any better for other products such as sugar, rice, olive oil and potatoes. Families are now spending hundreds of euros more per month. Just think that for a family of 4, the average expenditure increased by an additional 915 euros per yearwhich is why many have reduced spending in stores and are trying to focus more on discount stores even if the increases have been felt there too.
The government is silent on the increase in basic necessities
In recent weeks, the Government held a meeting on the subject of increases and inflation, but in the end, however, it was decided not to intervene on prices, which triggered the protest of Assoutenti who decided to organize a week-long pasta strike. This is an attempt to boycott this much-loved food with the aim of seeing if prices can be brought back to standard levels.

From 22 to 30 June: no purchases
The launched initiative plans to do not buy pasta for a whole week, from 22 to 30 June, but to leave it on the shelves. Seven days where all Italians are invited to boycott the purchase of the first course that cannot be missed on Italian tables.
Considering that pasta is a highly valued and commonly used food, Assoutenti thus thought of a strong gesture to understand if the disproportionate increase of this product is motivated only by the increase in raw material, or whether there has even been any speculation. But above all to understand if the price really depends on these reasons or if the market, i.e. supply and demand, still has purchasing power.
Pasta strike: where it costs the most
Lately, Assoutenti carried out a survey on how the prices of pasta change according to the Regions. The results show that Ancona is the city with the highest prices and a one-kilo package can cost up to 2.44 euros. Cosenza, on the other hand, is the cheapest city. Only in 12 Italian provinces are prices cheaper than 2 euros per kilo. But the average price is now around 2.13 euros per kg, with an average increase of +25.3% compared to 2022.
