Passengers on Delta flight from Amsterdam spend the night at an army base in Canada after a stopover | Abroad

A Delta flight from Amsterdam to Detroit made a stopover in a hamlet in Canada. Passengers spent the night there at an army base. The flight had to land ‘as a precaution’ due to a technical problem, the airline said.

According to CNN This concerns 270 passengers who left Amsterdam and were on their way to the American city of Detroit, Michigan. Flight 135 had made an unexpected detour to Happy Valley-Goose Bay in the remote Canadian province of Newfoundland.

According to the FAA, the US aviation authority, the pilot reported ‘problems with the deicing equipment’. This equipment keeps the engines ice-free and no longer worked for one of the engines. The FAA has announced it is launching an investigation into the incident.

The plane landed at a military base in Canada, where the passengers first had to wait in the plane for hours. Later, most of them spent the night in army barracks because there were not enough hotel rooms in the town, which has only 8,000 inhabitants. The next day, more than 24 hours after departure from Amsterdam, the travelers were picked up by a plane that took them to Detroit.

Delta says it will compensate passengers, although the airline does not want to say how much will be paid per person, reports The Daily Mail.

It is not the first time that a Delta aircraft from Amsterdam has experienced problems with icing. On October 25, a flight to Los Angeles had to turn around after an hour and a half in the air because of problems with the equipment that keeps the wings free of ice.
