VVD faction leader Lex Janssen will leave the Eindhoven city council at the end of November. The reason for this step is that his partner Remco van Dooren (CDA) has been appointed as an alderman in the city. “We want to keep it pure,” says Janssen.

It was already known that Lex Janssen would leave the Eindhoven city council after the next elections. After eight years, he thought it was time to pass on the baton, he writes Studio040.

Now the leader of the largest opposition party has decided to quit a few months earlier than planned. His partner Remco van Dooren was appointed as councilor in Eindhoven on Tuesday.

“Even though there is nothing legally in the way of him being an alderman and me being a councilor, we would like to keep this pure,” Janssen explained his decision in the council meeting on Tuesday. Both Janssen and Van Dooren have been in the Eindhoven city council since 2018.

Van Dooren was installed as alderman on Tuesday afternoon. He is the successor to Maes van Lanschot (CDA), who will be installed as a Member of the House of Representatives on November 12 and said goodbye during the same meeting.
