Parquet finds no evidence of cheating in casino tender

Five years ago there was a lot of commotion when the contract for the construction of a new casino in Middelkerke was awarded. The opposition at the time, including current mayor Jean-Marie Dedecker, filed a complaint against the then – and now deceased – mayor Janna Rommel-Opstaele and two aldermen. There were even house searches, with the investigators looking for evidence of fraud and a conflict of interest.

But five years later, the prosecutor’s office says that it finds no evidence of irregularities and that everything has gone according to the rules of the game. The council chamber is expected to make a final decision in March.

Jean-Marie Dedecker is considering asking for additional research.
