That deadline has been met, the spokesperson for Mayor Schuurmans of Haarlemmermeer confirms. “The site was cleared on time. “So no penalty for the owner.”
NH reporter Thijs-Jan van Aalst was at the site earlier this week and saw that it was virtually empty. “There was only a security house, two garbage containers and one burnt-out car,” he says.
Target arson
The site on Bennebroekerweg has regularly been the target of arson in recent months. In two fires, one or a few cars burned down, but on the night of Sunday 10 to Monday 11 November the damage was many times greater: dozens of cars, mainly belonging to Schiphol travelers, went up in flames.
