Paris Jackson accuses her father’s estate executors of a lack of transparency. What’s behind the failed compromise – and what role Blanket Jackson plays in it.
Since Michael Jackson’s death in 2009, legal disputes have plagued his family. Sometimes it’s about allegations that were made during his lifetime, sometimes it’s about disputes regarding his assets. It is precisely the latter that is a legal episode that his children are currently going through.
Dispute with the estate administrators
The current case involves a dispute between Paris Jackson and her father’s executors, John Branca and John McClain. Her younger brother Blanket “Bigi” Jackson tried to mediate with a legal team. The estate administrators accuse the King of Pop’s daughter of having withdrawn from an agreement regarding the estate.
Paris Jackson had argued with the executors of the estate over certain payments the estate had made to outside law firms that she believed were excessive. In court, she advocated for a better approval process for such payments. The estate countered that the payments were standard in the industry and pointed out that they had brought the estate billions of dollars.
The 28-year-old also demanded that the estate submit the associated invoices more quickly. In new documents, the estate said it was close to reaching an agreement with Paris after Blanket and his legal team worked to resolve the issues, reported
“TMZ.”
First agreement, then withdrawal?
The executors claim that Blanket’s lawyer told them that he was speaking for all three of King of Pop’s children – including Paris and Blanket’s brother Prince Jackson. According to the estate administrators, they reached an agreement on the procedure for submitting the accounting reports at the end of March. But then, she alleges, Paris Jackson backed out of the agreement at the last minute and made her own proposal – one that the estate’s administrators said was “radically different” from what had been agreed to just a week earlier.
The executors said they had agreed not to make bonus payments to law firms unless approved by the court – along with other changes to the process. They confirmed to the judge their willingness to accept the previously reached agreement, but spoke out against Paris’ alternative proposal.
Statement from the Jackson camp
A source close to Paris Jackson tells TMZ: “Since the moment she filed an appeal, Paris Jackson has been the victim of a vile, outrageous smear campaign by the executors and their lawyers. These lawyers have used the resources of the Jackson family to mock, belittle and attack her for demanding transparency and accountability from the people who control every aspect of her family’s finances.”
The source added: “To be clear, at no time was there a proposal on the table from any party that would resolve all the issues between Paris and the executors. When there was a proposal on attorney fees, the executors and their highly paid lawyers fought to water it down with exceptions and loopholes that would have rendered it ineffective. Their demands would have allowed the executors and those same attorneys to continue to operate without any accountability to act.”
