Florian is one of the first names written on a piece of blue glass by his mother Mirjam Louwen van Bekkum. The Haarlem woman lost her baby four years ago. She has drawn a sun with it. Mirjam is the initiator of the Nooit Voorbij Foundation, which organizes the creation of the joint monument.

“It will be very nice to see all those names together. Together we are stronger after a loss.”

Koen on red glass

Cindy Krijgsman from Zaanse writes the name Koen on a red piece of glass. “Because that was his favorite color,” says his father Edward. Eleven-year-old Koen died because he had no resistance due to a congenital metabolic disease. “It is special that we can capture Koen again on a monument,” says Cindy.

mention Désanne often

Gabrielle Vinke from Amsterdam writes the beautiful name Désanne, who is five years old, in elegant letters. “I can’t mention her name enough and this underlines that.” She is happy with the connection through the artwork. “You are not alone with your sadness, but also with all that love that has to go somewhere.”

Watch the report here about writing the names on the mosaic glass pieces, yesterday during World Light Day at the Westerveld cemetery and crematorium in Driehuis.
