Parents Natacha de Crombrugghe fear that case will be filed in Peru and they will never know how their daughter died | Natacha’s disappearance in Peru

The parents of Natacha de Crombrugghe (28) are afraid that the Peruvian authorities will classify the file surrounding the disappearance and death of their daughter and that they will never know exactly how she died. They told the Peruvian newspaper ‘La República’.

The young woman from Linkebeek left Brussels for Peru on January 1, 2022 for a six-month journey through Latin America. On January 24, she wanted to go on a trek through the Colca Gorge near Arequipa, but she disappeared after leaving a hostel in Cabanaconde and has not been heard from since.

After a search of more than eight months, fishermen found remains of the Belgian in the bed of the Colca River in September 2022. They were in a difficult to access area with ravines 200 meters deep.

Hypothesis

A year later, it is still not clear exactly how Natacha died. According to the Peruvian authorities, everything points to an accident while walking, but her parents doubt that hypothesis and want it investigated whether it was not murder after all.

Her body was found about 25 miles downstream from a bridge she had been forced to cross on her trek. “Her skeleton turned out to be almost whole, even though it had been in the water for eight months,” said the father, who works in a funeral home, in an interview with HUMO. “Maybe she wasn’t dragged 25 miles but was thrown off another bridge, closer to where she was found.”

Experts

Eric and Sabine de Crombrugghe are still awaiting reports and conclusions from the police and forensic experts in Lima, as well as the report of a second autopsy being performed in Belgium.

However, they fear that the public prosecutor in Peru will classify the file because so far there are no concrete indications in the direction of murder. “We want the truth to come out and we finally find out how and where Natacha died,” they tell ‘La República’.
