Paralympic archer Bülent Korkmaz, who was injured in Dubai, was brought to Turkey by air ambulance.

President of Turkish Physically Handicapped Sports Federation, Muaz Ergezen, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the national athlete was being treated at Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital.

Explaining that the national athlete Bülent Korkmaz is in good health, Ergezen said, “While our athlete Bülent Korkmaz was resting in the hotel room after the competition on February 22, while trying to get from his chair to his bed, he fell to the ground and suffered an injury. A fracture was detected in the hip bone of our athlete, who was taken to the hospital.” said.

Ergezen stated that they decided to bring their athletes, who were recommended emergency surgery by doctors, to Turkey, and said:

“However, because our athlete had sequelae of polio, hypertension, insulin resistance and sleep apnea, the doctors stated that it would take a few days for the approval of the surgery. He would have to stay in the hospital for at least 1 week or longer after the operation. We also cooperated with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health for a healthier treatment of our athlete. “As a result of the negotiations, we decided to bring our athlete with an ambulance plane to our country. Our athlete is in good health right now. I would like to thank all our officials for their support.”
