Paola Egonu ready for Sanremo: “I don’t hate Italians and Italy doesn’t hate me”

Everything is ready or almost ready for Paola Egonu’s debut in Sanremo 2023, determined to clarify some details of the famous outburst last October at the Volleyball World Cup.

Paola Egonu will be one of co-hosts of the Sanremo Festival 2023, ready to debut on the Ariston stage on the evening of Thursday 9 February, the one dedicated to the covers and duets of the competing artists. Just in these days, while there is talk of a farewell of the champion to the VakifBank, Paola has returned to Italy for the final preparations in view of the start of the Festival and the intense rehearsals before her debut.

It is Paola herself who keeps her fans updated on Instagram, while in an interview granted by the volleyball player to the newspaper The Republic is told the first telephone contact with Amadeus: “He was very kind, he explained his idea of the festival to me, he made me feel good even when I was anxious. He made me understand that it will be a wonderful experience“.

For the 24-year-old from Cittadella it will be a very important debut on a stage that he will exhibit it to the applause of the public and, as often happens, also to criticism. Well aware of what awaits her, Paola Egonu wanted to return to the famous outburst of last October, when the young woman, immediately after the bronze medal at the World Cup, announced in tears her intention to take a break from the Italian national team.

A very harsh outburst that had come at a time when the champion felt fragile and under pressure, but which had been met with fierce criticism from those who had read those words – “That’s enough! That’s enough! You can’t understand, she’s tiring. They even asked me why I’m Italian. This is my last game with the national team” – a heavy accusation of racism against his fellow countrymen.

Paola Enogu’s clarification

A few months later, the sportswoman wanted to take advantage of the interview to make a clarification: “I feel the need to clarify certain things, what happened. These are ideas that do not belong to me. It doesn’t make much sense to say it like this, it’s not that he committed a crime and I want to reiterate it. I want to clarify the fact that I don’t hate Italians and Italy doesn’t hate me. At that moment, when I vented, I felt fragile, I didn’t want to offend. Now I will have one more opportunity to clarify this“.

The occasion will be his participation in Sanremo 2023. What Paola Enogu will do on the Ariston stage, in addition to presenting the competing artists of course, is still top secret. There are those who hypothesize that she will announce her return to the national team, those who imagine her as the protagonist of a monologue, but her direct interest does not say anything. The only certainty? Paola Enogu will be “beautiful, elegant and smiling“.
