The US metal band Pantera has postponed several concert dates and canceled to mourn the death of Ozzy Osbourne. The legendary singer of Black Sabbath died on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the age of 76. Osbourne was one of the most influential musicians in the Heavy Metal and has been closely connected to Panta for decades. In a statement on social media, the band Osbourne referred to as “mentor, brother and constant presence, like off the stage”. Out of respect for the deceased and to create space for grief, Pantera announced that it was moving two shows and canceling three more.

Specifically, the concerts in Saratoga Springs (originally July 28th, new: September 9) and Holmdel, New Jersey (originally July 31, new: September 8). The appearances were canceled on July 29 in Gilford, on September 8th in Birmingham and on September 10th in Virginia Beach. Last joint appearance

Pantera were not only musically close to Osbourne. Guitarist Zakk Wylde was part of Osbournes Soloband for almost 30 years and only had been on stage with him on July 5th at the “Back to the Beginning” concert in Birmingham. The event with bands like Metallica, Tool, Guns N ‘Roses, Alice in Chains and Rage Against The Machine marked Osbourne’s final live appearance, both solo and with Black Sabbath.

One of the most formative metal bands

Pantera, founded in 1981 in Texas, are considered one of the formative bands of the genre. They sold over 20 million albums in their career. The current line -up consists of Phil Anselmo, Rex Brown, Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benanten. The band celebrated their comeback in 2022 after the founding members Dimebag Darrell (2004) and Vinnie Paul (2018) died. With a view to Osbourne’s death, the band said in their statement: “This bond went far beyond the music. We ask for understanding in this difficult time.”
