“Panic attacks if you challenge them”
Boris Becker criticizes young generation sharply

German tennis is currently not a top player with the women and depends on the men. Boris Becker has one reason for the fact that little fulfills.
Tennis legend Boris Becker considers the German offspring not resistant enough. The “Spiegel” told Becker: “I have had the experience with the generation of around 20-year-olds: Much of them is too exhausting, too difficult. They cannot cope with the pressure. They have panic attacks if you ask them.”
The triple Wimbledon winner sees that “younger players want to live work-life balance. Everything very comfortably, everything is nice.” However, they lack resilience.
An assertion that is always set up outside of tennis. Figure skating Olympic champion Katarina Witt, for example, told the “Gala” at the end of 2023: “In the meantime, the other nations are simply better than we do, especially in figure skating. Unfortunately we have got to the provincial level in Germany, I have to say so.
Boris Becker also defends Barbara Rittner with his statements. The women’s ex-national trainer had to leave the DTB (German Tennis Bund) in early 2024. Probably also because there was criticism from younger players in their demanding kind.
“I am someone who cannot be bent. I believe that you can only be successful with hard work and leaving the comfort zone. Not everyone wants that, but of course there are some who go along. But there are fewer talents who want that,” Rittner then said to the RBB.
Becker now jumps aside: “If it were now number one or number five in the world that complains, then I would think, okay, she knows how it works. But when number 90 complains or number 129, then I don’t understand.”
